“Most of the important things in the world have been accomplished by people who have kept on trying when there seemed to be no hope at all.” – Dale Carnegie.

Donald Moetsi (or Don Don, or Don Dash) as he is affectionately known by his colleagues, drives and facilitates projects for Add-X Marketing Solutions, and has been a loyal employee for the past decade.

His colleague Alison nominated Don because they have a shared bond. They both have special needs children, and knowing the challenges that come with that, Alison contacted Hot Cares for assistance.

Kagiso is Donald’s 9yr old daughter who was diagnosed with Dandy-Walker Syndrome at birth. She also developed hydrocephalus, (which is an accumulation of cerebrospinal fluid within the brain which causes increased pressure and size of the skull), brought on by her condition.

Dandy-Walker Syndrome affects brain development, primarily the part of the brain that co-ordinates movement among other things and as a result, Kagiso has global developmental delays. Physically she’s unable to stand or walk independently; she is also unable to support herself in an upright position.

Hot Cares looked into how they could best assist Kagiso and her family. After much research and advise, we are delighted that we can help in the following three ways;

We will be donating a side lyer positioning device designed to improve her postural alignment when spending time out of the wheelchair. It also helps control severe muscle stiffness, spasms and uncontrolled movements by allowing for controlling the positions of the head to improve Kagiso’s ability to breath, swallow and socialise.

A Domus 2 mattress which is very useful for Kagiso at night, and especially helpful for Miriam, her Mom, who currently has to turn her every two hours.

Miriam, Kagiso’s mum, struggles daily to get Kagiso around, and life would be much easier if she had her driver’s license. She currently has her learners and we are happy to be able to pay for driving lessons and the license fee for Miriam.

The total of the donation to this wonderful family is valued at just over R17 000.
