Benjy Mudie has been in the `business of making music` for 40 years. Renowned for his deep passion for South African music he has been responsible for signing and developing some of the most successful pop, rock and jazz artists in this country including Mango Groove, Blk Sonshine, Evoid, Lesley Rae Dowling, Naked, Egyptian Nursery, MarcAlex, Vicky Sampson, Coleske, Ratau Mike Makhalemele, Little Sister, Nianell, Elvis Blue, Khaya Mthethwa, Cofield Mundi and many more. Eight of the Sunday Times Top 100 South African Songs list, published in 2014, were by artists signed and developed by Mudie across three decades whilst heading up A&R and Marketing at Tusk Music. In 1997 he founded the independent SA music only label, Fresh Music, and in 2009 he was approached by Universal Music to kick start a drive to sign new South African talent to the label including the wildly successful pop outfit, The Arrows. He also served as the hands-on A&R consultant for Universal Music`s partnership with Idols SA where he was responsible for the chart and commercial successes of Elvis Blue, Mark Haze, David van Vuuren and Khaya. He left Universal Music in 2013 to return to his roots via his vinyl record store, VinylJunkie.
His successful radio career includes a six year stint producing & hosting `Rock Of Ages`, South Africa`s only weekly national classic rock radio show on Radio 2000. In 2013 he was approached by 702 to host a new weekend music show, The Jukebox, playing classic pop, soul and rock spanning the highly influential 60`s and 70`s. His near encyclopedic knowledge of all genres of pop music and personal stories about many of the artists who made the music makes him one of the most entertaining DJ`s on air. In March 2019 Benjy continued his journey as a radio host by joining Hot91.9FM helming a Sunday show called “Good Times”.
