Get Up Woman Self-Sustainable Women’s Village

Get Up Woman Self-Sustainable Women’s Village

Hot Cares recently received a request to help the “Get Up Woman” NPC by one of the Hot 91.9 FM clients who was previously in an abusive relationship. She had managed to not only get out of the abusive relationship because of “Women Get Up”, she had totally transformed her life.

The founder, Gigi White named it “Get Up Woman”, because she wants to send a strong message to all victims to:

“GET UP; IT IS A COMMAND NOT A REQUEST!

GET UP AND DO SOMETHING

BECAUSE YOU HAVE TO

BECAUSE YOUR CHILDREN NEED YOU TO

BECAUSE IT IS THEIR FUTURE

BECAUSE YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL & WORTHY”

A total of 2771 women were murdered in a 12-month period 2017-2018.  One in 5 Women have experienced domestic violence. Every 8 hours a woman is murdered by a current or previous partner.

Through their self-sustainable (farming) village, women are upskilled and able to provide for themselves which makes leaving their abusive partners a possible.

Hot cares will be donating “Get Up Woman” R10,000.00 towards their self-sustainable women’s village.

Foster Mom Gets a Helping Hand So She Can Carry on Making a Difference

Foster Mom Gets a Helping Hand So She Can Carry on Making a Difference

Lynn Tyack is a single foster mother to three children, who live with her in her home.  This is not the first time she has fostered, and she has a passion for opening her heart, and home to children who need it the most.

In January she opened her home to two new children, the social worker arrived with a one-month old baby girl and a tiny 2-year-old boy. The babies had been taken away from their parents as their parents are heavily addicted to drugs. Lynn’s home is now full, and apart from school drops she will be spending most of her time homebound, as a single mom with a new-born and four toddlers.

Her current challenges include the funds needed to care for these children. There are costs for homecare, medication, schooling and special therapy. The Welfare fees she receives don’t cover each child’s actual needs.

The wish sent in for Lynn appealed to us because she gives these children everything possible, from her heart to her pocket, even when her pocket is empty.

“She will not turn her back on any child. She is completely selfless and sacrifices her own needs. It’s a remarkable undertaking for one woman.”

Hot Cares have committed to assisting Lynn with R1,000.00 per month for the next 12 months to help her with essentials to take care of these children.

Boy with Epilepsy’s Family Gets Peace of Mind and a Good Nights Rest

Boy with Epilepsy’s Family Gets Peace of Mind and a Good Nights Rest

Ruweida Noble wrote into Hot Cares about her grandson Diyaan who has epilepsy.

Diyaan and his mother stay with Ruweida and they both take care of him and wake up through the night to tend to his epilepsy. This hugely impacts not only their sleep, but their quality of life. They need to be able to take care of Dyaan, but they also need to be able to get a good nights rest regularly to take care of themselves to sustain the care care Diyaan needs.

Because of his condition he sleeps in the bed with them so that they don’t miss what could be a crucial moment, and Ruweida wrote into Hot Cares to ask for assistance in getting a monitor to help him sleep in his own bed.

This monitor would be life changing for the whole family.

Hot Cares decided to purchase the monitor so that Diyaan can now sleep in his own bed and the family can have peace of mind, and a good nights sleep every night.

While Same and Jeremy were on the call to Ruweida, Jeremy noticed that her phone was not in good condition, and Hot Cares have bought her a brand new phone so that she can easily get in touch with others.

Samantha Cowen together with Sasha Lee Olivier went through to the Teddy Bear Clinic in 2019 to watch how children are taught how to testify in a rape trial.

This has all been set up in a way to make the child feel safe, but also to make the child feel comfortable to tell the truth. The secondary trauma is what these children go through when they have to go through they go to the police station, telling their story and the examination.

These packs are unfortunately not readily available, and this makes the victim feel even worse.

The Angel Foundation put together Rape Comfort Packs to give a moment of dignity to the victims of a heinous crime, and these cost R120 each, and as Sam says, it’s the cost of 3 cappuccinos.

In this podcast Sam and Jeremy chat with Monique Strydom and Penny Stein and hear how these packs impact the victims positively.

Hot Cares have donated R12,000.00 towards 100 Rape Comfort Packs.

Hot Cares – Healing Wings

Hot Cares – Healing Wings

This morning, Hot Cares on Mansfield in the Morning spoke to Megan Brewer from Healing Wings.

Megan wrote to tell us about the incredible work they’re doing and about the far-reaching effects that work has had. While Healing Wings itself is a drug and alcohol rehabilitation center, one of their projects the Siza’umphakathi outreach project, has taken on a life of its own.

Working with the Mankele Trust Community for many years now, every Christmas they host an all-day family event for members of the community. They provide a meal and fun activities like a game of soccer or horse rides; they also use this event to put together and distribute parcels to over 130 children. Similar to a “Santa’s Shoebox”; the box would typically contain a toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, washcloth, nappies, feminine hygiene products, clothing, underwear, baby formula, toys, school supplies and the like.

As Hot Cares, we’re greatly inspired by so successful an outreach project within a recovery centre, that we’d like to assist their efforts by donating R10 000 towards their Christmas parcels.

May every member of their community have a blessed and Merry Christmas.
