Jeremy Mansfield is a legend in media. His voice and face is familiar to millions of Jo’burgers through his extensive experience in radio and television over the last 30 years. He has won more awards than any other person in the industry, been inducted into the Radio Hall of Fame and raised millions of rand for charity while on the airwaves. He continues to be involved with charity campaigns to this day, both on and off the dial.
His return to radio on Hot 91.9FM marks a new chapter in his journey. While listeners can expect Jeremy’s trademark irreverant humour, cheeky world view and all sorts of naughtiness, his other life is one of giving. It is something he grew up with in the Eastern Cape, and treasured as an integral part of his being a member of the British Settler/isi-Xhosa community. He’s considered politics as a means to make a difference in the country but realised that right now his real power is in changing lives on the ground, as and when they need it, with his own brand of humour and heart.
The hype starts here. Tune in.
Following his lifelong passion to be involved in the electronic media, John Walland joined 5FM in 1989 on a freelance basis presenting news and sport. In 1994 he joined on a permanent basis working alongside numerous top radio presenters, where his banter and humour made him a popular personality. Presenting and co-ordinating sports interviews during Nashua Sports Trax, he built up an excellent relationship with sporting personalities both locally and internationally.
John was appointed as Sports Anchor on SABC 2`s AM Today Breakfast Show in 1999 and also appeared on Mnet`s Super Saturday as a Sports Show Participant. In 2003 John left 5FM, joining 94.7 Highveld Stereo as a Sports Presenter. In 2008, in order to further gain experience in the industry, John lent his warmth and sports journalistic prowess conducting interviews with local and international sporting personalities for the KFC Sports Cage on Jacaranda FM.
John is currently the much – loved (and often abused) sports presenter on Mansfield in the Morning on Hot91.9FM.
Simon Hill started his radio career down in the Cape back in 2008 after studying and majoring in radio journalism at Rhodes University. His love for sports initially saw him lean towards the more ‘active’ side of radio broadcasting, which resulted in him doing sport on shows featuring the likes of Ryan O’ Connor and John Maytham. However, a phone call from Darren Scott back in April 2009 changed all that. Soon Simon began writing and voicing numerous parodies and skits for Darren’s Just Plain Breakfast. One such skit was The Rugby Panel, which, over the years has endeared and alienated (mainly alienated) Simon to many.
In 2011 Simon swapped his ‘hey bru’ for ‘ja, china’ and made the move from Cape Town to Johannesburg to take up a full – time career in radio. The journey continued in 2012 when Simon formed part of the founding group that started Ballz Visual Radio: South Africa’s first dedicated sports – only internet radio station. It is this team that joined Hot 91.9FM in November 2014 to re-voice the South African radio landscape. These days you can hear Simon carving a role for himself on Mansfield in the Morning on Hot91.9FM.
A legend of the radio (and media) game, Sam Cowen’s two decades in the industry means she needs very little introduction, and her familiar voice and wicked sense of humour can now be heard every morning on Mansfield in the Morning.
Apart from co-hosting the award-winning Rude Awakening for 14 years on 94.7, Sam’s also hosted a parenting show on eTV, written a play and four bestsellers, one of which, ‘Waiting for Christopher’, was featured in the International Museum of Women. Her latest book, From Whiskey to Water, is a story of her own battle with alcohol addiction. She believes the key to all success is in tapping into your own resilience. She’s currently working on a new series about ordinary people who have overcome extraordinary things.
