The rise in cases of violence directed at women and children, especially during the Covid-19 lockdown is alarming. Hot Cares got in touch with Green Door, an emergency shelter in Diepsloot for victims of domestic and sexual abuse to find out how we could assist those who are most vulnerable. Green Door offers victims a safe and secure environment, basic emotional containment, referrals and assistance, care packs, blankets and clothing.
Thankfully, The South African Institute of Professional Accountants (SAIPA) have generously donated R17 000 towards the fight against gender based violence, which Hot Cares will be using to purchase the much needed care packs for Green Door.
“The South African Institute of Professional Accountants, SAIPA for short, is humbled to be able to assist Green Door at this time. We admire the much-needed work they do in caring for women and children of abuse and are privileged that we can contribute to their cause in some small way. SAIPA, as an institution, actively advocates and promotes ethical and responsible behaviour within the profession in order to retain public trust and confidence. As professionals, we all have a duty to support moves to build a more ethical society, and to embody those ethics in the way we conduct our business and private lives.”
The South African Institute of Professional Accountants is a leading professional body for accountants and tax practitioners who perform all accounting and tax related duties except external auditing. The Institute offers several professional designations that assure the public of our members technical and practical competence and commitment to ethical practices.
